This is a presentation regarding some of the greatest threats and changes to our Great Lakes from invasive species like the Asian Carp, non point pollution, to the industrialization of our Great Lakes for energy
Tom Marks is a ‘student’ of the Sea Grant Great Lakes Leadership Institute, a program to develop the next generation of leaders to raise public awareness regarding invasive species threats to the Great Lakes. He is the New York Director for the Great Lakes Sport Fishing Council, a bi-national organization representing stakeholders before federal, state and local governments; Environment and Pollution Committee Chairman and Director for the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs; a NYS representative on the Lake Erie Percid Management Advisory Group (LEPMAG) a bi-national group of biologists, government fishery managers and stakeholders tasked with developing the new methods to estimate populations of walleye and yellow perch (percids) and develop sustainable commercial and sport fishing harvest rules for Lake Erie; founder and Exec. Dir. of Great Lakes Wind Truth a bi-national organization raising public awareness regarding the development of wind energy in the Great Lakes; a licensed USCG Captain, owner and operator of GR8 Lakes Fishing Adventures, LLC. and a recipient of the distinguished Stanley Spisiak Conservationist of the Year Memorial Award.
