Western New York is a great area for bicycle enthusiasts. We have beautiful landscapes and scenery along the region’s waterways that are perfect to enjoy from a bike seat.  Even the more urban parts of our region are becoming more bike-friendly.

Just last fall, the city of Buffalo added “sharrows” to many of the city’s busy roadways, encouraging drivers to share the road and be more accommodating to bicyclists.  The city is adding more sharrows and bike lanes to streets during routine roadwork this summer.

A new tool was recently developed for bicyclists in the Buffalo Niagara region. GBNRTC’s new interactive bicycle route guide was developed to help bicyclists locate bicycle routes throughout the region.  Leisure bicyclists, athletes, and bicycle commuters alike will find the guide useful.  It helps users to locate roads with marked bicycle lanes, park & ride lots, and multi-use trails as well as bike shops and bike racks.

Users can refer to the guide’s color coding which rates the comfort and quality of the roads and indicates those which require the most caution.  The guide also provides riding tips, local attractions, border crossing information, and more.  This new interactive guide contains all the basic information bicyclists need to know in order to properly and safely ride their bikes.
